Family Guy Emmy Campaign target Chris Christie’s Traffic Scandal

Chris Christie’s “bridgegate” traffic scandal is the target of this year’s Family Guy Emmy campaign. The ad in today’s mailer to Emmy voters has portly patriarch Peter Griffin as a stand-in for the New Jersey governor, placing a traffic cone against a white background. “Vote for us,” reads the caption, “or it’s time for some traffic problems in Brentwood.”

the Fort Lee lane closure scandal, where members of the governor’s staff ordered the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge back in September, resulting in an epic traffic jam purportedly designed to punish a political enemy (“time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee,” read the most infamous internal email). Christie has not been proven to have known about his staff’s involvement in the closures at the time they occurred.

The Fox animated hit has a tradition of pointed, often controversial, awards season ads. If anything, this year’s entry is tamer than some.

The show’s 2010 campaign had Griffen mocking the film Precious with the slogan, “Vote for us or you’re racist.”
